The second candle of advent is the candle of Peace. – Bethlehem’s candle.
In Luke 2:14, the angels proclaim that there will be peace on earth.
Jesus gives us inner peace – John 14:27. Jesus’ death on the cross allows us the opportunity to receive salvation and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. We not only have peace of mind in our salvation, but we also have peace of mind knowing that He will come again.
Jesus gives us the ability to have peace with other believers – Galatians 3:28. We belong to the same family and should have the same purpose – share the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Jesus teaches us Biblical peace – Proverbs 3:5. Trusting in God’s promises allows us the ability to have peace, even during dark & difficult times.
The word peace appears somewhere between 200-400 times in the Bible. Jesus Himself is called the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). So while Peace may be the second candle of Advent, it is still just as important as Hope.
In the culture we live in, peace that truly comes from Jesus is hard to understand. Yet, when we allow the Holy Spirit control and we live in the peace that passes all understanding, we show others that we are unafraid because we have Jesus…..and that they can be unafraid too.
Shalom!
